From 15th March 2008 visitors to Harewood will be able to view a superb 1760s Chinese Wallpaper that was hung at Harewood by Thomas Chippendale. The paper will be conserved and hung in the East Bedroom where it will be complemented by Chippendale's 'Chinoiserie' furniture and newly refurbished Chippendale bed. The wallpaper has been described as one of the best preserved and most beautifully decorated in existence, showing scenes from Chinese life and industry of the 18th Century including silk weaving, tea drying, porcelain production and planting rice fields.
