Stewartry Museum, Kirkcudbright

St. Mary Street, Kirkcudbright, DG6 4AQ, Dumfries & Galloway, Scotland

Opened in 1893, the museum has a collection of remarkable range and quality, reflecting the human and natural history of the Stewartry- the eastern half of Galloway. The social history collections of the eighteenth and nineteenth century are particularly important. Local and family history information services. Photographic and Archive collections, plus a shop.

A traditional museum with varied and extensive permanent exhibition presenting the human and natural history of the Stewartry. A general museum activity leaflet is available for children. The Museum Curator is available to give an introductory talk to school parties on the museum and its collections.

Programme of temporary exhibitions, e.g. on local maps and mapmaking; prehistory of Galloway; cup and ring marks. It is planned to offer school activity sheets for some of these exhibitions.
