Royal Albert Memorial Museum & Art Gallery
Queen Street, Exeter, EX4 3RX, Devon, England
N.B. Currently closed for refurbishment, re-opens Spring 2010
There’s more in Exeter’s museum than you might imagine, its 16 galleries of displays take visitors on a voyage of discovery from pre-history to the present day and from Exeter all around the world.
The museum also houses an art gallery and three special exhibition spaces. Its changing programme means there is likely to be something different to see every visit, from national touring shows to community displays as well as fine art from the city’s collection and work by local artists and makers.
Free entry gives everyone the freedom to visit many times and to stay for any length of time.
Displays drawn from the city’s collection include glassware, Westcountry silver, clocks and watches, local history and archaeology. Exotic animals, birds and butterflies delight children in the Natural history section and the World Cultures galleries display stunning items from all over the world.
The museum’s busy event programme includes talks and classes for adults and lively creative activities for children and families.
RAMM was one of five museum's nominated for the Guardian newspaper's Family Friendly Museum Award 2004.
