Students at Ricards Lodge High School take part in an exciting project involving music, dance and storytelling.

Focussing on the journey made by slaves from Africa to the Caribbean and to Britain the project explored the spiritual journey involved and what has survived from these original cultures.

The project was run by the Koromanti Arts Group, a contemporary African and Caribbean company, led by "H' Patten, an experienced choreographer, filmmaker, storyteller and performer, who has worked with black dance companies in Britain, Africa and the Caribbean over the past two decades.

120 students from Years 7 to 11 took part and performed their work in school assemblies after the half term holidays so that the whole school was able to share in the experience. One of the students, Sonia in Year 8 said: "It has been great working on the project and learning the dance. I have really enjoyed it.'

Alison Jerrard, Headteacher, said: "It's been exciting to have the students take part in this vibrant project that has been both highly enjoyable and a chance to raise their awareness of our multicultural community."
